Vale Royal School Sport Partnership helps schools run a ‘Smile for a Mile’ Challenge to help them increase activity levels throughout the school day, supporting the Chief Medical Officer’s recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day for children.
The aim of SfaM Challenge is for individuals, classes and schools to clock up the kilometres by walking and running a pre-designated route, recording their achievements along the way. By entering information into this document your school will be able to celebrate your own records and milestones along the way.
Taking part
1) Decide on a safe route (or routes) around your school for your SfaM ‘track’ – this should avoid roads, car parks and public areas (unless risk-assessed and adequate controls are put in place). It doesn’t really matter on the length of ‘track’ because for shorter routes children can complete multiple laps.
2) Measure the total length of the track (in metres) using a trundle wheel or similar … this can be done by the young people themselves!
3) As a class walk, jog or run your track every day throughout a set period (for example a month). Use the Daily Record Sheet to log your laps and add them to your school tracker to follow your progress.
When you’ve completed the month please send your tracker into Chris Story chris.story@hartfordhigh.co.uk as Vale Royal School Sport Partnership would love to celebrate the achievements!
