We highly value the development of the staff who oversee and deliver PE, School Sport or Physical Activity.
This page has been created to host the links to our local training programme, as well as courses put on by trusted partners from across the national network.
Due to the unique way schools fund our work all VRSSP, Youth Sport Trust & FA Girls Football in Schools training is free for staff who work at a member school. Where national partners put a cost to their training we have clearly marked this against the event.

Curriculum support
Remember your PE & School Sport Coordinator is there to support your curriculum development by visiting lessons and supporting staff through co-delivery. Should you need any further support (for example from a specialist in Dance or Gymnastics) please get in touch via our contact page. You can find out more about how you can maximise the impact of co-delivery support by watching the short video we filmed with Paul Finney, one of our PE & School Sport Coordinators and Josh Coleclough, a Primary PE Subject Leader:

Click here to download the FA Shooting Stars programme information which details the various aspects to the work and the many benefits for schools.
There are a variety of training dates from September 2022 onwards for the three modules for the FA Shooting Stars Programme.
Please click here to download the Virtual Training Booking Links sheet if you are a school who haven’t engaged before or where your previously trained staff have left the school.
If you have had previously received training for Shooting Stars and wish to attend as a ‘refresher’ that’s fine, alternatively you can book a ‘catch-up’ meeting with ourselves – please click here to contact us. We are also providing a face to face training for all schools who have been trained before – see the calendar for details.

Teach Active ‘Physically Active Learning (Maths/English)’ training
We are again working with Teach Active to provide training which helps schools reap the benefits of introducing more physical activity across their curriculum. Last year we worked in partnership with Teach Active and Active Cheshire to test the impact of various strategies in a number of our schools – the results can be seen in this video case study, filmed at Over Hall Community School.
In order to maximise engagement we are providing this years’ training online on Thursday 1st February 2023, 1-3.30pm – to get the most of this opportunity for your school please encourage as many staff as possible to attend!

Dance training for our schools
We are happy to share with you the opportunities we have to support the development of dance in your school. Our work focuses on the requirements of the national curriculum regarding to enabling the creation of work by children themselves.
Our partnership with the Royal Opera House through their Create and Dance programme offers support for teachers via a combination of virtual and live training. For 2022/23 the details are yet to be confirmed but previous programmes have followed this pattern:
Online ‘Royal Opera House: Create’ launch – 1 hour online
An online introduction to the Create and Learn programmes (Dance, Sing, Design) from the Royal Opera House, along with a few short activities teachers can do in the classroom with their students.
PART ONE Create and Dance: Alice – 1 hour online
An online half day CPD to explore the ‘Building Blocks’ of dance to inspire cross-curricular learning, with a particular focus on literacy. Scheme of work and additional resources included.
PART TWO Create and Dance: Alice – 3 hours face-to-face
A face to face training for those who have attended the first online session and will continue the journey ‘down the rabbit hole’ of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
UCLan ‘Space in Schools’ resource – Virtual.
Subject Leaders may also be interested in a ‘Space in Schools’ resource that UCLanDance, Dance Artist Lucy Starkey and astronomer, Dr. Joanne Pledger have created for use by schools which aligns dance delivery to KS 2 Science curriculum guidelines. All the resources are free to download through the webpage and include dance lesson videos, music, teacher notes and classroom investigation ideas.
